Question:
I have a 25 Hammond gooseneck all steel trailer, SN: 78-246. Registration says 3900 empty wt. Any way to find out axle size? I figure either 6K or 7.2K, but not sure which. Axles are 3 round. Any idea where I could find out more info on the trailer? Need new brakes.

The only way to know for sure what the capacity is of your axle is to contact the manufacturer with the serial number, but since you said they are 3 inch round axles, you are correct they will almost certainly be either 6,000 lb, 7,000 lb, or 7,200 lb axles. We can actually get you set up with new electric brakes based on the size of your hub and drum.
You just need to measure the inside diameter and depth of your drum, as well as know the brake flange mounting bolt pattern to be sure.
The most common size and what I suspect you likely have is a 12" diameter x 2" wide hub and drum, which would mean you have a 6,000 lb or 7,000 lb axle. So if you measure the inside of your hub and you have a 5-bolt mounting flange, you will be able to use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA with Mounting Bolts # BRKH12.
The other possibility is that your drum measures 12-1/4" diameter x 2-1/2" wide, and if you have that along with a 4-bolt mounting flange, the only option for brakes is the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-428-429 with Mounting Bolts # BRKH122510.
I have added links below to video reviews and an install for you to check out as well if you'd like.
