Will Curt Front Mounted Hitch for 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab Work With Rhino-Rack Load Assist

Updated 10/23/2020 | Published 10/21/2020

Question:

I have a 2015 GMC 3500 Duramax, crew cab 4WD DRW and need to carry a 14 foot kayak, Brooklyn Model PK14. The truck pulls a fifth wheel so there is about 40 inches behind the cab, but the rest has to go on the roof and towards the front. It seems that using only a roof rack might place excessive strain on the portion of the Kayak hanging over the front, so can I use this on the roof, and then use the Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist and Support Bar for 2 inch Hitches - 49 inch Long. Or is there a better way?

You can absolutely use all the parts you mentioned for your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab in order to carry your kayak. The front-mounted hitch and Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist will be the perfect option for you, and you can get the T-Load with and roof rack to ensure your kayak doesn't scratch up your roof.

The exact parts you need for your '15 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab are the following:

- Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # C31071
- Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist and Support Bar # RTL002
- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar # RRVA150B
- Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs # RRRLKVAH
- Custom DK Fit Kit # DK415 (Only comes in pair)

To secure the kayak on the roof I recommend the Rhino-Rack Nautic Roof Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs # RR571.

While you'll only use the rubber-padded front cradles because you'll only have one crossbar with this system, it will work perfectly to secure the front of your kayak in conjunction with the rear mount of the T-Load. The Nautic also comes with tie-downs, though if you need more you can use the Rhino-Rack Cam-Buckle Cinch Strap and Anchor Kit # RRRBAS-RTD55P-RTD45P.
