Recommended Trailer Winch for Scissor Lift Pontoon Trailer

I have a scissor pontoon boat trailer, looking for the best brake winch for the money. Boat and motor are 2800lbs. Not sure about the minimum load for a brake winch to work?

Because I don't know how your specific trailer is designed with the scissor lift I don't know if the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake - TUFFPLATE Finish - 2,500 lbs # DL15721 will be large enough capacity to safely lift your 2,800 lb boat and motor.

You may want to consider the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake - TUFFPLATE Finish - 3,500 lbs # DL24844 which is rated higher and has the enclosed gears and braking mechanism. I've attached video reviews for you to compare these two.

I would only add an axle if it is really needed. Otherwise you are making more work for yourself than is needed. But if you do add an axle then I recommend making it a true tandem set up for better ride quality and so the 2 axles can work together…
