Question:
After getting a steep quote from the local hitch installer, Ive decided to have them install the hitch, but I will install the brake controller and wiring myself. I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L without factory tow package. I plan to install the Curt Echo. Can you help me identify the parts I need? Many thanks!

The first thing you will need for wiring your 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L is the 4-pole harness. I recommend the Curt T-Connector, part # C56382. It has a relatively easy installation: just remove a few pieces of the rear trim panel and plug into the controller panel on the driver side. It also features a power converter which prevents overloading your vehicle's electrical system. I've included a video installation of this harness on a 2018 Odyssey.
The Curt Echo, part # C51180, helps with reducing the amount wiring needed to use a brake controller. However, you still need a 7-way harness to plug that into. To convert the T-Connector 4-way into a 7-way, I recommend the etrailer 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit, part # ETBC7L. This converter will give you the 12V connection you need for the Echo. Plus, it has a 4-way connector next to the 7-way so you don't have to dismantle it when you need a 4-way connection.
To install the adapter, just mount the harness onto your hitch, plug the 4-way plug into the T-Connector you installed, ground the white wire, and run the black wire up to the front of your vehicle. From there, secure the included breaker to metal, hook up the black wire to each post (after cutting it), and hook up to your battery. I've linked to two video installations of this kit so you can see how it's done.
