Best Trailer Hitch Receiver For Towing With 2018 Toyota Highlander

Updated 07/26/2024 | Published 07/12/2024

Question:

I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander Limited and would like the best all round hitch to haul anything within its specs. In your professional opinion which make and model would you choose if it were up to you? Our Limited is a 3.5L V6 front wheel drive. The GCWR is 10840lb. The TWR is 5000lb. if this helps. Thanks in advance for your opinion!

Hey Kevin,

That's a good question as there's a number of different choices, but if it were my 2018 Toyota Highlander and I was looking to tow a trailer, the trailer hitch I'd put on is definitely the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13200.

Reason why is this is the most robust hitch you can get for your Highlander, coming in with a 6,000 lb towing capacity and 900 lb tongue weight capacity, so it can easily handle whatever you're looking to haul with your Highlander. Apart from that, I take into account Curt's long track record of good old-fashioned quality, because I know it's going to be reliable.

So I'd go with the # C13200, and just to be thorough, if your '18 Highlander doesn't have a 4-way trailer wiring harness and you also need one, the correct part is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118449.

Hi Kyle, Thanks a bunch for your professional advice. I had spoken to someone else there because I thought I had accidentally erased your email which didn't end up being the case. They recommended the same hitch but a cheaper wiring harness, the Curt #C56217 which is $38.33. Was just curious what the difference was between the #118449 for $80.83 and the above mentioned Curt? My 2018 Highlander Limited does not have the factory tow package if this helps. Thanks in advance for all your help! Kevin

@Kevin Happy I could be of some help to you, and as for the wiring harnesses, I default to the Tekonsha because of reliability. I know their wiring is going to be top quality so it's the brand I recommend and what I would go with, hence the # 118449 for your Highlander. There's nothing inherently wrong with the Curt # C56217, and it won't cause any issues with your Highlander, but Tekonsha harnesses are the best quality, and it's really more about that. That said, I'm also a consumer and know price is always a factor, so I certainly understand going with the less expensive option.
