Self Adjusting Brake Assemblies for Lippert 4,400 lb Axle

Updated 08/21/2020 | Published 08/19/2020

Question:

I have lippert 4400# axles. The dexter 4400# brakes will not fit due to stud pattern 2 7/8 top and 3.25 bottom. This Eagle HT has 2 7/8 top and bottom. Translation 3500# brakes. Several of your techs keep saying the dexters 4400# will fit...this is simply not the case. Also, was told by a very reputable Dexter dealer in my area that the 44oo pound magnet is same as 3500# magnet. This is the only piece of the assembly that could add braking force as 10 x 2.25=same contact area. Please help.

The Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA are my recommendation for your Lippert axles. The 3500 and 4400 lb axles normally use the same assemblies and the same mounting flange, but as you stated Dexter has a few that are a specific fit for the Dexter 4,400 lb axles which has a slightly different bolt pattern. You can however use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 23-468-469 if desired. The only difference from the 4,400 lb assemblies is the mounting bolt locations.

The rating of 3,500 lbs is not stating they can't be used or won't work well on a 4,400 lb axle, the 3,500 lb axles are just used far more often so are a more common reference size. They will work well with the common brake flange like # 4-35.
