Troubleshooting Weak New Trailer Brakes

Question:
Hi, I purchased the electric brake assemblies part AKEBRK-35-SA as well as two new hub and drums part # AKHD-545-35-K. I adjusted the brakes so that there was some drag on the drums. I have a 2017 toyota tundra that i hook my trailer too. The trailer display shows full green connection. My question/problem is that i need to turn the power gain to the highest setting 10 to feel some braking from the brakes. I would think that with new brakes and drums i would not have to set the gain so high. Even at gain 10 it only provides some drag. Do i have defective brakes or is there something i am missing? Thanks,

It's very common for new trailer brakes to not feel as strong as you'd think they would be. With self adjusting brake assemblies like the # AKEBRK-35-SA the trick is to apply the brakes several times as each time they will click a little bit tighter making the brakes feel more powerful.
So what I would do is find an area you can safely go parking lot speeds at and apply the manual override lever of the brake controller several times while travelling slowly. You should start to feel the brakes get tighter and tighter.
