Are Cam Tensioner Tire Chains Good for Plowing Snow with a 1995 Dodge Ram

Updated 10/15/2012 | Published 10/12/2012

Question:

I use my Dodge to plow snow in the winter. Is it better to have cam tighteners or manual on snow chains? Will the cams shift or loosen if I constantly back up like I do when plowing cul-de-sacs? Also, what is considered a light duty truck? How much weight can these chains deal with?

First, in the case of tire chains like # PWE2216SC, a light truck is a consumer grade pick up. A medium duty would be like a 5500 series truck, generally found in commercial applications.

Cam tensioners work well and provided that you have the chains tight on the tires they should not shift or loosen on you. There are many different chain options for any given tire size. To make the best recommendation I would need to know the size tires on your 1995 Dodge Ram. I have included a couple of links to FAQs that cover tire chains for you to view.
