Question:
I have a 2010 silverado LTZ crew cab 6.2 6 speed trans with the max tow package. I just bought a 5th wheel tall trailer weighing approx. 7200 lbs. I drive in the rocky mountains. My first trip out I used the tow mode. My transmission low temp was 203 f high temp was 217 f with my engine temp going up to 235. I was climbing a long hill in about 90 f air temps. do I need to change my trans. cooler to reduce temps in engine and trans

Expert Reply:
If the transmission fluid temperature gets over 200 degrees Fahrenheit then you are reducing the life of the transmission so yes, I do recommend adding an additional larger transmission cooler. In regards to engine oil temperature, 235 degrees Fahrenheit is pretty normal, maybe a tad high. The Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler part # D15903 for GM or part # D15902 for all others would be a great addition helping with both engine oil and transmission fluid.
