Fastway e2 Upgrade Recommendation For Sway Control on 2016 R-Pod 178 Travel Trailer

Updated 07/07/2020 | Published 07/03/2020

Question:

New to towing. Felt some sway on first trip from 12 to 18 MPH steady wind, but not in scary way. 2019 Ford Ranger pulling 2016 R-pod 178. Curt 17001 WDH without sway control came with trailer. Dry weight of trailer 2,800#, with 280# TW. Would a Fastway e2 have helped and made it a safe tow ? Is the Fastway with 600# TW sufficient, or the 800# TW better ? Lastly, how much does the Fastway assembly weight ?

You have a couple of options to get sway control with your trailer. The basic Curt system you already have you can add a friction sway control bar to using # 17200. This is an easy add on to your current weight distribution system that will use brake pad style friction to help control trailer sway. This is the most cost efficient option.

The Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0600 is a definite upgrade from that style system and will be better at controlling trailer sway. With your dry trailer tongue weight at 280, you likely won't get to the sweet spot of the larger system you mentioned so I recommend this one rated for between 250 and 600 lbs total tongue weight. I've attached some videos as well as a help article to assist in your decision.

This unit weighs around 90 lbs total for all components but that isn't added to the tongue weight when determining the correct system to use with your vehicle and trailer.
