It is hard to beat Righline Gear's Rooftop Bags. The Rightline Gear Sport line is the best at keeping your items protected. I have personally tested out the 18 cubic foot version # RL100S30 on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and found it difficult to fill up while staying below the weight capacity of my roof. It also comes in 15 cubic foot # RL100S20 and a 10 cubic foot option # RL100S50 which will probably fit your Crosstrek best.
With your Crosstrek having raised side rails and crossbars you have a lot of options.
To give you a good idea of how much gear you can fit in 10 cubic foot bag I made a video on the CargoSmart Soft-Sided Car Top Carrier # CS44FR. I had a lot of luck fitting enough gear for my family to take a trip in my car. This bag is a more cost effective option but I was surprised at the quality of the material. With that being said I like Rightline Gear a little bit better.
I have had the opportunity to test out a lot of rooftop bags and I have found that the Rightline Range line of bags is the most bang for your buck. You get a high quality bag that is water resistant but it doesn't come in at the price of the Sport line. I tested out the 18 cubic foot # RL100R30 on a Subaru Forester and it worked great. The material was nice and it was one of the best functioning bags I have used. It also comes in 15 cubic foot # RL100R20 and 10 cubic foot # RL100R50. I attached the video on the Forester below.
One thing I would recommend picking up is the Rightline Gear Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad # RL100650 this will help protect the roof of your Crosstrek from any scuffs or scratches on your roof from the bag.
