Shank for Bigger Drop With Weight Distribution Hitch for 2 Inch Receiver

Published 06/25/2020

Question:

When I flipped it over, I only dropped 5" and there's a 7" difference in height of the receivers. Do I need a different 'bar'?

Yes, you will need to set it up all over again for the different height of your new truck, just like you did initially. You can find out how to do this in the instruction manual of whichever hitch you currently have, like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System with 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET.

If I'm understanding correctly it sounds like you need a different shank with a larger drop for your weight distribution hitch. Thankfully, shanks are the one part of a weight distribution system that are interchangeable between brands, so there are a number of options. I assume you have a trunnion-bar system and 2" hitch, and if so there are a number of options depending on the exact drop you need. I have added a link to a help article which tells you how to determine the correct drop required, and here are some options for a shank that fits a 2" hitch and has the most drop available for trunnion bar systems. - 9-3/4" Drop: Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Shank # FA92-02-4315 - 7-1/2" Drop: Reese Weight Distribution Shank - Drop Only # RP3344 The Fastway will work with systems that have a max tongue weight capacity of 1,200 lbs, while the Husky and Reese will work with systems that have a max capacity of 1,400 lbs. I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
