Why It's Not Recommended to Use Dump Trailer Battery for Trailer Breakaway

Question:

I have a dump trailer which has a 12v on board full size battery that operates the lift on the dump trailer .. can i hook up the breakaway emergency switch to that battery . Thank you

It's not recommended to use a battery that powers the dump feature of your trailer for the breakaway battery since that battery could be drained when you'd need the breakaway. Legally also you have to use a breakaway battery setup like the Hopkins # 20099 which comes with a dedicated battery.
