Question:
Hello! Looking to replace a hitch on my 1998 GMC K2500 SL with tow package. Already have the brake controller and wire kit in the cart, but need help with the actual hitch. Looking for 10,000 pound capacity truck rated for 8000, and current hitch is only 5000, but also need clearance for 265/75/R16 spare. Truck has standard bumper, regular cab, and 8 ft bed. Thank you for any direction you can point me in!

The Curt Class IV, part # C14081 would work great for you. According to Curt, the spare will need to be dropped temporarily in order to facilitate the installation, but once the hitch is in place, the spare will fit back in its original location.
This is possible because the hitch crossbar is kicked back further toward the rear of the vehicle which allows more room for the tire.
I've linked you to an installation video.
