Question:

I purchased an older trailer today 1993 Mastertrack 16’ car hauler. The axles have a three or maybe just two? bolt pattern for the backing plate. All the brake assemblies I see on your site for 3.5k axles are four bolt patterns. Is there a way to make these work on mine?

The only way to get brake assemblies for 3,500 lb axles to work on your trailer with what I assume are 3,500 lb axles is to have your flange professionally removed and a new one welded on, the Brake Mounting Flange for 2-3/8" Round Axle # 4-35.

This will require specific tools and a welder with experience doing this type of work. The easier way, and likely the less expensive option is going to simply be to replace your axle.

In order to choose the correct replacement axle for your trailer you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; the other thing you need to know is the weight capacity of the axle you need, which should match or exceed the GVWR of your trailer. These can even come with hubs and brakes already on them.

For example the Dexter Trailer Axle with Electric Brakes # 35545E-ST-89 has a 3,500 lb capacity and measures 89 inches from hub face to hub face and 74 inches from spring center to spring center.
