Adjusting Curt Trunnion Weight Distribution System so Tow Vehicle Rides Level

Question:

I have this system I use with my 2004 F150 to pull my 2007 K-Z Jag 28 bunkhouse. Dry weight on the camper is 7360 with tongue weight at around 780 lbs. The problem I am having is I cannot get it adjusted to where my rear suspension does not sag. I had the dealership I bought it from try and adjust it to no avail. The rear is 3inch ped and the front is raised 3/4inch even with the bars on, and the camper is level at that point as well. Any suggestions?

Although you have the proper system based on the tongue weight of the trailer, it sounds like you need to apply more tension to the spring bars. This will apply more leverage to the system, and therefore more weight to the front axle of your tow vehicle, leveling the ride height.

How many links are showing in the chain between the snap up bracket and the end of the spring bar? If there are more than 5, tightening the chain a link or two will provide some more tension. If you are already at 5 links, you will then examine the tilt of the trailer ball at the weight distribution head. Tilting the head rearward will apply more tension. If the head is already tilted as far rearward as it will go, try raising the head one series of holes on the shank.

By adjusting all three of these elements, I am confident you can get your system dialed in so that the tow vehicle rides level. Keep in mind, this assumes that the rear suspension of your F150 is in good working order and that when you chose a system based on the tongue weight of the trailer, you included the weight of anything stowed in the truck bed behind the rear axle as tongue weight.
