Would this work on a 2020 Ford Transit Connect Passenger Wagon with a rear lift gate? The roof rack mounted version of the awning wouldn't be an option as it will make the vehicle too tall for the parking garage at work.

Yes, the Thule HideAway Awning part # TH490018 will work on a 2020 Ford Transit Connect but there isn't a vehicle specific adapter available for the Transit Connect so you will need to drill into the vehicle for installation. The only bolt-on option would be the Thule HideAway Awning part # TH490008 which requires a roof rack like the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar System part # TH711420, part # TH460R, and part # THKIT3032 but as you said this would raise the height of the vehicle 5-6".
