Question:
is there a way to convert the stop/turn signal from my truck to just a turn signal, so i can add side turn lights to my trailer

Yes, there is a special converter, # 118158, that takes the combined circuit and separates out the signals to give you just turn signals and just brake lights on separate wires. You will install this converter on the trailer side, behind the connector. The left turn/brake goes to the yellow wire, the right turn and brake goes to the green wire. Make sure to ground the white wire.
On the out put side the red wire is the brake lights only, yellow is left turn only, and green is right turn only. Take a look at the picture I have included.
