Question:
I am installing a hitch on a 2017 Kia Sorento without a factory brake package. I am intriqued by the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller but do not understand how it is actuated. I will have to add a 7 way plug adapter to the wiring harness but that has a wire that is supposed to connect to a brake controller. I dont understand how the Echo works.

The Echo # C51180 is a unique and really awesome brake controller solution. Basically it's a self contained brake controller that installs inline with the 7-way wiring of your vehicle at the rear of it. So the only wiring needed is a 7-way with all of the turn signals active and a wire for the 12 volt accessory circuit ran up to the battery. We have the # ETBC7L specifically for your application after you install a 4-way # 118583 you'd be set with parts needed to install. So the Echo draws power from the 12 volt accessory circuit, uses the trailer lighting circuits to determine when you apply the vehicle brakes, and then uses it's internal inertia sensor to decide how hard to apply the brakes. Now to adjust it's sensitivity etc. you sync it to your smart phone and it walks you through that process.
Overall this is the easiest to install brake controller solution around and one that will also do an excellent job stopping your trailer. I also attached a review and install video for the controller as well as install videos for the other products mentioned too.
