The Peterson Round Trailer Tail Light, part # 431800, is a three function light and has two wires coming out of the back of the assembly. The brown wire is for running lights and the red wire is for turn signal and brake lights. The light grounds to the trailer by the mounting studs which must be attached to a clean metal surface on the trailer frame.
A 7-Way also has combined brake and turn signal circuits and a single running light circuit. On the trailer side connector, on the back where the wires attach, the pin in the 3:00 position is for right turn and brake lights. The pin in the 11:00 position is for the running lights. The running light wire can go directly to one of the tail lights and you will attach a jumper wire to go to the tail light on the other side.
I have included a picture showing the functions of a trailer side 7-Way and a link to our wiring FAQ article for you to view.
