Question:
Do we have enough clearance for tailgate to open or do we need to remove cargo box?

Yes, the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ 2 Enclosed Cargo Carriers - 2" Hitches # Y74ZR completely swings away from the vehicle to give you full access to the back of your CR-V even when the carrier is fully loaded.
Please keep in mind that the # Y74ZR will only work with a 2" class III or class IV hitch. Your 2017 Honda CRV has both class II or class III hitches available. If you already have a hitch, please check the sticker and make sure that you have the class III model. If you, you will be in great shape.
I've included a video review so you can learn about the great features of this carrier and also see it in action.
