Hello etrailer team! I have some questions about the following item: Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ 2 Enclosed Cargo Carriers - 2inch Hitches Item # Y74ZR - Is this compatible with my BMW X1 which is fitted with a 2inch receiver? Is there any concern with respect to the exhaust pipes? - Do you recommend a license plate relocation kit that works with this Yakima Box? - Do you recommend a brake/blinker light kit ... just in the case that these boxes block my tail lights? Preferably I would like the lights to plug into my 7-pin trailer / brake port? thanks!!

Yes, the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ 2 Enclosed Cargo Carriers item # Y74ZR is compatible with the 2" receiver on your 2018 BMW X1.

As far as exhaust heat goes, the shank on the swing away has a 2" rise to lift the carrier up and away from your exhaust. On our test vehicle the closest part of the frame was 6" away from the bumper so you shouldn't have any issues with exhaust heat causing damage.

Given the size of this system I strongly recommend using the License Plate and Tail Light Relocation Kit for Yakima EXO System item # Y74VR. This will move your license plate and add lights to the rear of your cargo carrier and keep your BMW legal in all states. To attach it to your X1's 7-way you will need the 7-Way to 4-Way Trailer Adapter item # PK12716.
