What is Purpose of Lateral Angle on Torklift StableLoad Suspension Enhancement

I can understand the wedge shape from top to bottom plates, but why the lateral angle?

The lateral angle of the Torklift StableLoads part # TLA7310S is designed to make engaging the system a bit easier, but as you can see in the picture I attached when they are engaged the support is across the entire overload spring.
