Question:

I bought a 2013 highlander specifically to tow a camper. It has the tow package and is rated to tow 5000 lbs. I have read that a WD hitch should not be used on a unibody tow vehicle like the highlander. My highlander squats 3 inches with 380 lb tongue weight. Is it ok to use the WD hitch?

I checked the owner's manual for a 2013 Toyota Highlander just to be sure and there is no mention of not using a weight distribution system so you are covered. In fact, it is even somewhat encouraged as the manual states the use of a sway control device which most weight distribution systems have is needed for trailer's over 2,000 lbs. There is some truth to uni-bodies having a weaker structure than body-on-frame configurations but not so much so that you cannot use a weight distribution system on all uni-bodies as this is an over generalization. In fact, there are many uni-body vehicles in which the manufacturer requires the use of a weight distribution system for trailer's over a certain weight.

I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System part # FA92-00-0800 with the 2" Hitch Ball part # EQ91-00-6080 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball part # EQ91-00-6100. The Fastway e2 is one of our best options and it has built-in sway control. It should take most of the rear sag out of your vehicle.
