On our 2017 MB sprinter 2500 we mounted the Road Master spare tire carrier #RM-195125 which has a hitch of its own for additional cargo storage. Security would be our highest priority followed by capacity and ease of installation and use. What say ye Expert?

The 2 inch hitch opening of the Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier # RM-195125 that you have was designed to allow you to carry an additional cargo carrier with it as needed. For security like you mentioned being a priority I would go with an enclosed carrier like GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier # H00604 as it can be locked with a padlock # 131D to keep the enclosure shut and then can be locked to the trailer hitch with a part # ACC3250 as well. Having the contents of the box totally out of sight will also be great as well since it will be an "out of sight, out of mind" situation.
While the carrier is heavier at 80 lbs it's not much heavier than even the flat carriers so it is going to be about as easy to install as any other option.
