How Far Back Will The Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System Stick Out On My Vehicle?

Updated 04/07/2025 | Published 04/04/2025

Question:

We have a Class B motorhome on the 2024 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 chassis. The rear overhang is just shy of 60. We are interested in the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ 2 Enclosed Cargo Carriers - 2 Hitches Part Number: Y74ZR. Since this sticks out quite a bit, WILL IT DRAG in and out of driveways or dips. Can you tell me how far does it stick out on this vehicle ? Thank you :

Hello Crystal, thanks for reaching out. The Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ 2 Enclosed Cargo Carriers # Y74ZR will stick out 35-1/2". This is measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the rack. Can't say for sure if it will drag or not, but it definitely will decrease your clearance on steep inclines. You can measure back from the hitch pin hole to get a better idea of what your clearance will be like.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out with any other questions and I am happy to get back to you.

Hi Jesse, thank you for the detailed response. I just remembered a couple other questions: How high off the ground will the lowest point of the storage system be ? Will it block my view from the rear Camera ? Thanks!

@CrystalM The bottom of the carrier will more or less be even with the top edge of your hitch receiver. So that is where you could gauge the lowest point from. Any hitch mounted accessory will interfere with your backup camera. It may trigger your backup sensor too if you have one. Sometimes you can kind of still see, but it would definitely obscure part of your view. How much depends on where the camera is mounted.
