Recommended Trailer Hitch and Trailer Wiring for 2017 GMC Terrain

Question:

Need a hitch for my 2017 GMC Terrain. I'm buying a 6 x 10 small trailer to haul crap to the dump every now and then and I might want a cargo tray thing for trips. What exactly will I need to make this happen?

We have both Class III hitches with the 2 inch receiver tube or the Class II with the 1-1/4 inch receiver tube available for the 2017 Terrain. I'll typically recommend folks go with the 2 inch, as there are more hitch mounted accessories available and there isn't much of a price difference between the two. I'd recommend going with the etrailer brand # e98865 Class III hitch because it's very competitively priced and is just as high quality as the offerings from Curt and Draw-Tite. For the trailer wiring, use # 118494. To complete your towing system, I'd recommend a ball mount kit like # 989900 which includes two ball mounts, a 2 inch and a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball and the hitch pins and retaining clips.

For a cargo carrying tray, you can't go wrong with the Curt # 18153. The tray has a 500 lb capacity and measures 23x60. It conveniently folds up against the rear of the vehicle hen not in use and has a 2 inch rise in the shank for better ground clearance.

I've linked you to install videos for the hitch and the trailer wiring I recommended.
