Question:
Hello, I have a 2018 GMC Yukon XL Denali and I am trying to figure out the differences between the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM-523179-4 versus the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM-523179-5. Thanks,

Expert Reply:
The only difference between the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kits like part # RM-523179-5 and the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kits like part # RM-523179-4 are the removable arms. The Direct-Connect style means you can attach a tow bar to this like the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain Tow Bar part # RM-677 without the need for a crossbar to go between the two arms. The Crossbar-Style style means you will need the crossbar that goes between the two arms like the Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 part # RM-422.
The advantage of the Direct-Connect is one less piece to attach each time and the advantage of the Crossbar-Style is the compatibility of vehicle guards such as the Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard part # RM-4000 which won't work with the Direct-Connect style but there are other options like the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening part # RM-4750. I prefer the Direct-Connect style due to ease of use.
