Do I Need Additional Parts to Install SuperCoils Custom Suspension Springs on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?

Updated 08/10/2019 | Published 08/09/2019

Question:

Hi! I was wondering if I got these coils if they would require additional parts such as an adjustable track bar, control arms, etc? From my understanding they will lift the front end up by about 2/2.5 inches. I have looked everywhere and have been reading conflicting information. One side seems to be saying stock parts will work fine with the 2/2.5 in increase whereas others are saying a new track bar is needed along with control arms, and other upgrades. I plan on getting coils like these along with new shocks and wanted to know if I should get anything else to complete my setup?

The short answer to this question is going to be no; you should be able to add the SuperCoils Custom Suspension Front Springs # SSC-22 without needing to add any additional parts like you mentioned. The information you've been hearing isn't right or wrong, because each vehicle reacts differently and everyone has different tolerance levels/expectations of the handling on their vehicles. This is why you're getting so much conflicting information. In short, any time you adjust the height on your vehicle via the suspension (coils spacers, longer coils, shock extenders, etc.) you affect the steering geometry. Each make/model of vehicle is going to react differently, which is why you've seen so much conflicting information.

Generally speaking (and from my own experience with lifted vehicles), any time you add more than 2-3" of lift via suspension upgrade, there is a possibility you are going to need to add something to your system- it may be as simple as an adjustable track bar that solves any issues you're having (this is highly recommended as a counteraction to a basic lift). However in my experiences doing this, it could end up as complicated as adding that plus adjustable/longer control arms, dual arm steering stabilizers and adjusting the camber/caster. Every piece you add and its size changes the handling of the vehicle and may require something new to counteract the effects your additional components.

As I mentioned off the bat, since these coil springs don't provide a very aggressive lift, the likely scenario is that you'll be able to install them and not have any/very minor negative effect on the handling. However, it's very much a trial an error process and you won't know until you drive with them installed. If you install them and find that your Ram isn't handling the way you'd like it, you should look at an adjustable track bar and probably a dual-arm steering stabilizer first. If things are still out of whack, you're probably going to need to go for adjustable or longer control arms and longer shocks so that your shock arms have more travel.
