Troubleshooting Overload and Output Shorted Warnings on Prodigy P3 Brake Controller
Updated 07/25/2019 | Published 07/24/2019 >
Question:
Unit will show green and all is good in the yard. Randomly while towing you will see the screen go Red with Overload or Output short on the screen. Have checked all wiring that we can see Connections etc and find no issues. Unit might work fine for half a day then act up off and on the balance of the day. Is these an easy way to isolate or point us into the right direction. Hauling 3 car Kaufman and Grossing up to 30k. Thanks,

Since you are getting the overload and output shorted warnings on your Prodigy P3 # 90195 that tells me you have a short somewhere on your brake circuit. This can be cause either by damaged wiring, corrosion/debris in your tow vehicle or trailer connector, or a bad ground.
If you have checked all of your wiring for damage then we can rule that out which leaves us with checking our connectors to make sure they are clean and free of any foreign objects as well as checking all of our grounds for the trailer brakes. Make sure they are all securely connected to a clean, bare-metal surface.
Let me know if you are still having issues and I can help you troubleshoot further. If you have been at it for a while it may be helpful to also have a friend or shop take a look as well since a pair of fresh eyes can sometimes see something different.
