Does Factory Hitch Need to be Removed for SuperHitch Installation on a 2015 Ram 2500

Question:

My truck is a 2015 Dodge Ram, 2500, crewcab, 6ft 4inch bed. Etrailer has a video of a superhitch mounting on a 2015 Ram 3500. That video showed keeping the factory hitch and adding the lower receiver hitch below it. The factory hitch was loosened during installation and then everything was torqued. Part # TLD1100 seem to imply removing the existing factory hitch and mounting the double tube torklift superhitch For my truck, does the factory hitch need to be permanently removed or just loosened and the superhitch added to the factory hitch?

The TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver # TLD1100 with the dual receivers actually won't fit your 2015 Ram 2500 as it is for older Dodge Ram pickups (newest fit is a 2002). For your application you either need part # TLD1109 which has a 2" receiver or part # TLD1109-30 which has a 2-1/2" receiver (but it does come with a 2" adapter sleeve). Both of these options fit with your factory trailer hitch.

According to Step 2 (pages 5 and 6) of the attached installation instructions you do need to loosen the 6 bolts that hold the factory hitch to the side of your frame. You will then add the SuperHitch to your setup and it will work alongside your factory trailer hitch.
