Recommendation for Wider Tire to Replace 4.80-8 Tires on Mower

Updated 06/12/2019 | Published 06/11/2019

Question:

I have a 4.80x8 tire on my 33inch walk behind mower. Theres ample clearance for a wider tire. Should I use a 15x6. 5x 8 or a16x6. 5x8? Im not sure if these tires expand larger when inflated. I dont want to alter my deck height by putting rear tires that would lift the back of the machine by a large amount. Thanks for any help

To replace the existing 4.80-8 size tires on your mower with a wider set I recommend taking a look at a 5.70-8 size tire such as the excellent Kenda K353 # AM10012. This will let you keep your existing wheels while providing you with a tire that's about 1.3 inches wider than what you currently have. Its inflated diameter/height will be larger by 1.9 inches but keep in mind only half of this difference will actually work to increase the ride height of the mower (since the other half is above the spindle).

I have attached a short video review on this particular tire that you can check out as well.
