Can Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors Be Over-Filled with Too Much Grease

Question:
Can you over grease a bearing buddy I greased mine and the spring moved out but now my outer cap is coming off

Expert Reply:
It is possible to over-fill a hub that has a Bearing Buddy bearing protector such as # BB1781. The convenience of easy filling through the zerk fitting can often mean we can be tempted to keep adding more grease. ("If a little is good, then more is better"). What usually happens is that the rear grease seal gets blown out from the excess grease/pressure and so I suggest you inspect your grease seals to make sure they are still intact and without excess grease having been pushed out past them. If so then you'll want to replace them.
