What are Mounting Angle Requirements for Install of Prodigy P3 Brake Controller
Updated 06/05/2019 | Published 06/04/2019 >
Question:
Hi, I just purchased the Tekonsha P3 brake controller from you. My installer mounted to the dash to the right of the ignition by my right knee. I know the vertical angle is okay. I’m worried about the horizontal angle. The dash is angled, so the unit is angled as well. Probably close to 25 degrees. Since this is a proportional controller, will it still function correctly? The installer told me that I would be fine if I bought the IQ, it would be different, but the instructions indicate otherwise. Can you clarify?

The Prodigy P3 part # 90195 has basically the most flexibility in mounting angles but it does need to squarely face the rear of the vehicle and also sit totally flat from left to right. If you check out the pictures I attached you'll see what is okay and what is not.
If yours is currently not matching the install angle requirements it may not work well consistently. I'd strongly recommend fixing it before doing any towing. The Primus IQ actually has even more restrictive mounting angle requirements so it would not have been your best solution.
