Trouble Installing Snap-In License Plate, Utility or Dash Light Back Into Grommet

Question:

I am replacing the round 4inch led stop/turn lights on trailer. What is the secret to getting new light back into the rubber grommet? Soap, rubber mallet, a little cussing, and they still wont snap into place. Help

There are a couple of schools of thought on inserting lights, like # LP11CB. One method is to insert the light in the grommet first, and then snap the whole thing into the hole.

The other way is to put the grommet in first and then try to snap the light it.

I have had lights that go in very easily and others that were very tight and I needed to use some lubricant. Soapy water would probably be the best solution. I has to use WD-40 and it makes a mess and does not clean up easily like soapy water would.
