Grease Seal Recommendation for Dexter 4,400 lb Trailer Hub
Updated 05/07/2019 | Published 05/06/2019 >
Question:
I have 4400# Dexter axles on my Springdale travel trailer. Inner bearing is L68149 and replacing National brand seal #473336. When I look up the National part no. it is referenced for use on 3500# axles. My local RV shop says I need a 3500# seal -they offer a Highton #606075. Question: Do the Dexter 4400# axles use a 3500#inch seal? Seems like the 3500# moniker applies to other axles as well. I believe your P/N for this application is RG06-050. Is this correct?

Expert Reply:
If the number you found on the grease seal you pulled out of the hub was 473336 then that means the correct replacement seal is the part # RG06-050. This is commonly seen on the 3,500 lb axles but what also factors into this is that the 3,500 lb axle is one of the most popular axle capacities and 4,400 is not. Normally the next size up that you see from 3,500 is 5,200 which is why your hub components aren't listed in an easy of a way to find.
