The most amount of bikes you can carry on a hitch mounted bike rack is five with a hanging bike rack like the Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack part # TH9026XT. However, a hanging bike rack like the above is not your most versatile option because it will require an adapter bar like the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar part # Y02531 for bikes with an alternative frame which are pretty common. The most versatile option is a platform bike rack but this will only allow you to carry up to four bikes.
Out of the platform bike racks we offer, the Saris Freedom 4 Bike Platform Rack part # SA4414B-FB would be the best for you because of the unique frame clamp system that will allow it work on all difference types of bikes like those that have a deep drop tube, odd frame constriction, or fenders. It will also work for bikes with tires up to 5" wide. The only downfall of this rack is that it has a 35 lb per bike weight capacity but so long as you don't have any electric bikes you will be good to go.
The only option I have for you to carry the additional two bikes is with a roof rack and roof mount bike rack. If you don't want to mess with crossbars then you can use the SeaSucker Mini Bomber part # 298-BM2006 or part # 298-BB3008.
