Recommended Demco Hijacker Locking Plate for 5th Airborne Pin Boxes

Updated 04/24/2019 | Published 04/22/2019

Question:

Hi, I got the Reese 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler - 21,000 lbs Capacity Item # 5AB-E1621-610 Now the same number appears for the extended version pin box which has a different outlook though. And I am hooking it to a demco auto slider hitch on my truck which is a short box. Now, even though my King pin box doesnt say its extended version, do I need the DM 6o62 or DM 6026 locking plate adaptor.

The 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler - 21,000 lbs Capacity # 5AB-E1621-610 is a replacement pin box for the Lippert 1621, 1621HD, Fabex 665, and M&M 665. All of these pin boxes are grouped as "extended" pin boxes because they have an angled pin box reaching toward the vehicle. Conventional pin boxes have little or no angle. Extended does not mean they always extend past the 5th wheel trailer but rather they have a king pin that extends out from the mounting brackets.

I understand the confusion as this isn't how Demco determines their locking plate as extended or standard. I reached out to my tech contact at Demco and he stated they measure the flat part of the plate the actual king pin is connected to. If that flat portion is 12-1/2 inches then you will use the standard locking plate # DM6026. If that flat portion measures 20 inches, then you will use the extended length locking plate # DM6062.

So for your pin box you will use # DM6026 which is the standard plate.
