Question:
What is the difference between the Powerbuilt 1 7/8inch thin walled socket and the one provided by Equal-i-zer at 3 times the price. It will be used on 14K Equal-z-er hitch install. Does one work better than the other?

For all intents and purposes there is no functional difference! The Powerbuilt socket part # ALL643216 which is less expensive does the same job as the more expensive Equal-i-Zer socket part # EQ70-00-4800 that you referenced. We actually went and sought out a less expensive option when we first started carrying the Equal-i-Zer brand.
A thin walled socket like this is needed to torque down the hitch ball onto the head of the Equal-i-Zer systems.
