How to Determine if Trailer Can Switch to 5-Lug Hubs

Question:
I found a small tag along trailer with four hold wheels and rims. The trailer itself is large enough to pull behind my motorcycle, but I would have to change the four studs pattern to at least a five to get tires good enough to take on the highway. Is that even possible?

To do this you would need to switch your hubs from the current ones that have a 4-bolt pattern to ones with a 5-bolt pattern. This may be possible but you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings the current hub has. You will need to take apart the current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them.
If you are unable to find them, you need to use a digital caliper to measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.
For example, if you found that the spindle on the trailer used inner and outer bearings # L44643, which have a 1" inner diameter, and if you measured and got 1.249" where the grease seal rides, which would be seal # 34823, you could then use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-1K which has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.
I have added links to our entire selection of hubs, tires and wheels, as well as links to some help articles on hubs and wheels which I recommend checking out. If you get back to me with those measurements or bearing numbers I may be able to help you find the correct parts.
