Question:
What wiring it harness do I need to install a Reese brake controller? How can I tell if my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo had a tow package?

Expert Reply:
If your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has the tow package then you will have a 7-Way from the factory at the rear of your vehicle. If this is the case then the wiring might have already been ran for your controller and you just need to splice the wiring together as there are just blunt cut wires on your vehicle. You may need the wiring kit # 5506 though as sometimes the power wiring isn't present.
For an application where the factory 7-Way isn't present on your Grand Cherokee you will need a 4-Way harness like the Curt T-Connector # C55369 and the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This route means that you will be routing all of the wiring yourself.
Either way you will need to connect the following wire colors from your Reese controller to the following functions:
Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer
Black - 12V Power
White - Ground
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)
Attached are some sample installation videos you can reference. The one of the Prodigy P2 # 90885 on a 2004 Grand Cherokee will be the exact same as your installation if you already have the tow package as Tekonsha and Reese are sister companies and use the same wiring setup.
