Question:

I installed the Curt RVi4 and the tires chirped the first few times I braked. Normal?

That’s actually a common and temporary side effect, Greg. Most towed vehicles store a little vacuum brake assist even after the engine shuts off. During setup, the Curt Braking System # RVi44FR removes that vacuum assist to prevent overbraking, but if the engine runs during or after setup, it reintroduces it. Just unplug the unit while the vehicle is running, then repeat the Auto Position process to clear it before towing. See attached photo.

You may also need to adjust sensitivity. Let me know if you need more help after trying these.

Got it, Andrew. So once I reset it, that chirping should go away for good?

@GregM Exactly, Greg - once you clear out that stored vacuum and re-run Auto Position, the brakes will settle in and you shouldn’t get that chirp anymore. If it ever pops back up, a quick sensitivity tweak usually dials it out. Do you want me to walk you through the sensitivity settings next?
