Can the Thule EasyFold XT 2 TH903202 Be Used With a 2-1/2 Inch Receiver Tube Opening

Question:

Hi, We have a RAM 2500 with a 2 1/2inch receiver. We have an to adapt it down to 2. The Thule Easyfold XT2 has a permanently mounted hitch pin gizmo. Will that fit around the big thick edge on the 2500s reciever?

I called Thule and they have not yet tested the Thule EasyFold XT 2 Electric Bike Platform Rack part # TH903202 on a 2014 Ram 2500 with a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening. Therefore, in order to guarantee you don't have any issues with the integrated anti-rattle hitch pin fitting around the 2-1/2" receiver tube collar I recommend using the Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender part # HR26. However, using this adapter will reduce your hitch's tongue weight capacity by one third which is something you will need to take into consideration.

If using an adapter like the above is not something you're interested in or it drops the tongue weight capacity of the hitch too much then I recommend taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 2 Electric Bike Rack part # HLY84FR with the Hollywood Racks Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve part # HRHA-2. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE like the Thule EasyFold XT 2 Electric Bike Platform Rack has a frame mount design and will accommodate two bikes up to 80 lbs each. It also has locks for both the rack and bikes. The only notable difference is the lack of a loading ramp. The hitch pin design however allows for use with the 2-1/2" receiver tube so long as it uses a 5/8" diameter hitch pin.
