Can Replacement Motor for Bulldog Electric 5th Wheel Landing Gear # BD500359 Be Exposed to Rain
Published 01/10/2019 >
Question:
Will this motor withstand exposure to road spray/water if installed in an exterior location? I want to use the BD500161 Landing Gear on an open trailer but am concerned about what might happen to the motor if it gets wet. If I need to enclose the motor, will it overheat from being operated inside an small enclosed space? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
Landing gear motors like the Replacement Dual Output Motor for Bulldog Electric 5th Wheel Landing Gear # BD500359 that you referenced were designed to withstand rain and snow as they install on the outside of a trailer. You would not need to build a covering for the motor. If you can limit exposure to water it wouldn't hurt but it's not something that will fail the first time it gets rained on.
