Video Transcript for Review of SmartPlug Marine Power - Power Cord - SM62MJ

Hello everybody, this is Jeff with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this SmartPlug 50 foot long marine power cord. Has a 30 amp female connector on this end, and a 30 amp twist style male connector on the other end. You can see the cord is in a nice bright white color. Now this 30 amp cable will connect your SmartPlug equipped boat to shore power. Basically this 30 amp female connector, it'll snap into your SmartPlug inlet, and over on this end is a 30 amp twist style male plug that'll connect to an outlet at the marina.

Now the SmartPlug on this end, this is a straight in single step operation, means no more twisting or fiddling with locking rings. The plug shape takes any guesswork out of connecting, so it's very simple to use even in the dark. And it uses this multi-point locking system, so it removes the strain from the connection points. The side levers right here that I'm pushing on, these will snap, give you an audible feedback, keeps the plug in place. Just to show you what we're talking about, it comes with this clear cap that you put on there when it's not being used, but you'll be able to see if we plug it in, (plastic snaps) you hear how it snaps, the two things lock it into place.

And so same thing when you plug it in, it'll lock it to it and then to release it, you squeeze on both sides and it comes right off. So it's very easy to install, locks into place. The interior clamp will bear the weight of the cord to support wiring in the body. They do offer seals in the plug face and around the cord, help keep the equipment protected from the elements. Now on this end, the dock side male plug, it is your standard twist style connector, has a nice ergonomic grip on it that plugs and twists into the outlet on the dock.

Now, one thing I wanted to mention on this, if you're not familiar with the SmartPlug connectors, they have this blue LED reverse polarity light indicator light here that'll confirm correct connection. Basically what happens is when you plug this in, if this light is off, that means there's no power. If you plug it in, there's no light showing, that means there's no power there. If you plug it in and a blue light is on, then it's telling you it's normal power. If you plug it in, if there's a blue and a red light that's on, that's telling you it's reverse polarity, and if you plug it in and there's no blue on, only the red, that means it's a dangerous reverse polarity.

So it gives you a nice warning when you plug this in. We mentioned the nice snap on clear cap that you put on there, just like that, protects the terminals when it's not plugged in and it's clear, so it'll help you easily see the markings right here and it tells you what type of plugin it is. They do use high quality materials, which will hold up to extreme climates or out on the water. They use marine grade stainless steel components, which will hold up season after season. They do use nickel-plated brass electrical pins and tin wires to resist corrosion. As we mentioned, it's a white color, made in the USA. I wanna zoom out and show you, if you notice, it does come with this nice zippered round storage bag that'll let you put your cord in there, make it very easy to carry and store it. Again, the length on this is 50 feet, amperage, 30 amps voltage, 125 volts. But that's gonna do it for a look at the SmartPlug 50 foot long marine power cord.
