Question:

Trailer breaks Im getting a code on break box SC from what I understand means short circuit... Ive replaced the existing break box with a brand new one and still get the same code... trailer lights work, blinkers work but no brakes... Im reading 6 volts at the 7 pin outlet on the truck without the breaks or override being applied...when the break box is disconnected 0 volts...the plugin is a OEM part that plugs into the factory outlet under the dash alivating any splices... which Ive also changed....so what do think is the problem Ive done everything I know to do...2005 F150..

The SC code on your brake controller is showing that there is a short on the 5 o'clock pin for the brake controller output. This short could be a damaged wire or it could simply be that corrosion has built up on the pins which is normal over time.

I recommend you clean your 7-way pins on your vehicle first using sandpaper or steel wool. Next, I recommend cleaning the trailer side connector in the same way and then add dielectric grease # 11755 to both to prevent moisture and debris from getting into your connections. Next, I recommend checking the pins again for voltage to see if the issue has been remedied. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test your functions. When testing your brake controller output pin, you should have a growing brightness as you increase the output on the manual override.

If this doesn't solve the issue, then I recommend checking the ground connections on your trailer, including the brake magnets. If you can confirm power prior to the magnets but the brakes are still not working, then I recommend replacing the magnets.
