The most common cause for the jaws of a 5th wheel hitch like the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400 not to open is too much tongue weight still on the truck. You will want to make sure that your trailer's landing gear is adjusted properly so that the trailer is level and the pressure/weight is relieved from the hitch and your truck.
It's also possible that you are simply parked on unlevel ground, which can lead to the jaws remaining wrapped around the king pin even after turning the handle. When this is the case you should still be able to pull the truck away (as long as the landing gear is properly adjusted as mentioned above) and the king pin will open the jaws as you continue to pull away.
If this does not resolve the issue please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.

I can't remove the ball from the bed of the truck. Pin release moves in and out from the wheel well, ball goes up and down, can't remove.
