To flat tow your 2018 Ford Explorer I recommend the Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519329 because when installed it will not have any brackets protruding from the front of your Explorer, allowing it to maintain a clean look.

For a tow bar I recommend the Demco Excali-Bar III Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511013 because of how easy the tow bar is to connect to the base plates as well as the fact that it is designed to allow each arm to move independently so it will remain level when towing; the Excali-Bar also includes safety cables.

For a wiring kit that will allow your Explorer's lights to function while being towed you can use the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. Your battery must be disconnected when towing so I strongly recommend using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 to make this process much more convenient. Using this means you can simply flip a switch when you need to disconnect your battery to flat tow instead of having to manually do it each time.

A supplemental braking system is a requirement in most states and I highly recommend the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700 because it is a permanent, one-time installation that you will not have to continually activate and deactivate. It will also connect directly to your Explorer's battery and constantly charge it while the vehicle is being flat towed. To use this system you will need the Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 if your Explorer does NOT have adjustable pedals.

Finally, it is likely you will need a high-low adapter such as # RM-076 to keep your tow bar level with your tow vehicle. The adapter you need is going to depend on some measurements you'll need to take. I have added a link to a help article on high-low adapters which explains the measurements you'll need, as well as a link to our page with our selection of adapters.
