Troubleshooting Trailer 7-Way Plug that Wants to Disconnect from Vehicle Connector

Question:
I pulled my 2014 Airstream 25 foot trailer with a 2015 diesel Ford Excursion. The trailer to tow vehicle 7-pin connector was never a problem. The trailer 7-pin plug would actually stay in the truck receptacle without the receptacle cap retaining pawl. Now I tow the same trailer with a 2018 Ford Super Duty which was set up with the trailer TPMS system as an after sale item by my dealer. I think the original single 7-pin receptacle with a dual receptacle 7-pin for the trailer and another for the trailer TPMS. My problem is that the trailer 7-plug just falls out of its truck receptacle. It is very loose and I must secure it by tying the plug to the receptacle cap. There is just not the friction fit like on my Excursion. I am getting sporadic trailer disconnected warnings and I do not have trailer brakes. It seems to me that the receptacle diameter is too small for the plug. Is there a smaller diameter 7-pin plug? Have you heard of this issue before?

Expert Reply:
The standard 7-way trailer connectors have always had the same diameter. There isn't a smaller diameter size that's out there that your trailer would have and be causing the problems you mentioned. Most likely your best solution is to replace the 7-way plug on your trailer like with the plug and lead part # 277-000143. Or for just the plug you could use the part # PK12706 and you'd be good.
