Recommendation for Replacement Shelby 5470A Winch with Large Drum Storage Capacity

Question:

I have a floating cabin on the lake that is held to land with 6 winches. My outside winch that takes the most pressure is bent/damaged and needs replacing pictures attached. I can not find that Shelby Industries still produces winches but, I see on your site that you recommend the Dutton-Lainson DL-15440 Code. However, when I look at the picture of this winch - the cage for the spooled cable seems much smaller than my current Shelby winch, which would be a big problem. My floating cabin is on a lake that drops 17 feet in the winter, so, I need to spool a lot of cable in the summer. Do you have a recommendation for something that will mount similar to the Shelby, have equal/greater lb capacity, with plenty of room around the spool for a long cable? Thank you.

You are correct that Shelby is no longer in business. Based on my research it looks like your Shelby 5470A is a 2,800 pound hand winch. I wasn't able to locate the drum capacity on the 5470A but the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15440 that you mentioned can store up to 30 feet of 3/8 inch cable. It does have a very similar design to your existing Shelby winch but also features a slightly higher weight capacity of 3,200 pounds.

This is the largest drum capacity hand winch we have available that is designed for use with 3/8 inch cable.

If you use smaller 7/32 inch cable then another similar style winch is the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142421. This winch has a 3,200 pound capacity and a maximum drum storage of 100 feet with 7/32 inch cable. We also have the Fulton # F142430 that has an even higher capacity of 3,700 pound and a larger drum storage of capacity of 185 feet.
